Chuck offers impressive experience with government, agriculture, forestry, not-for-profit organizations and beyond. He was a successful logging and road building contractor prior to his election to the House of Commons in 1993 where he was elected in 6 consecutive terms before retiring from Parliament.
In his government career Chuck has served as Party Whip, House Leader, Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, a member of Cabinet’s Planning and Priorities Committee, and Chair of the Cabinet’s Social Affairs Committee. Between 2012-13, Chuck was also appointed Chair of the Security Intelligence Review Committee, an independent review body that reports to the Parliament of Canada on the operations of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.
After retiring from Parliament, Chuck completed the Director’s Education Program at Calgary’s Haskayne Business School, and subsequently joined the Board of Dominion Diamond Corporation, where he was Chair of the Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee until the company was sold in 2017. He is now a Director of the Manning Centre, a not-for-profit political training and research organization, a Member of his local Rotary club, and serves as the Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of The Royal Westminster Regiment.
