Paul Taylor is an accomplished private and public sector leader who has served as CEO of a number of insurance and energy companies and has held senior government roles in BC and Alberta. Most recently he was CEO of Western Financial Group, the West’s leading insurance brokerage company and its allied life insurance and pet insurance companies. He has also served as CEO of ICBC, Canada’s largest auto insurer, CEO of NaiKun Wind Energy Group, a TSX:V renewable energy company, President of TransAlta USA , BC’s Deputy Minister of Finance/Secretary to Treasury Board and as Chief of Staff to the Premier Gordon Campbell. Paul also served key roles in Ralph Klein’s government and in the Calgary Olympic Winter Games organization.
He has a proven track record in transforming major organizations, building successful management teams and achieving superior business and operational results. He has significant experience in leading corporate and business unit turnarounds in both private and public sector organizations.
Paul has a strong background in organizational governance at the public policy level and from serving on boards of directors for private sector companies, government owned agencies and not for profit enterprises. Board experience has included Western Financial Group, Western Life Assurance Company and Western Financial Insurance Company(PetSecure), NaiKun Wind Energy Group, BC Forestry Investment & Innovation, TransAlta New Zealand and TransAlta Power Ltd., Vancouver Convention Centre Expansion Project, the Conference Board of Canada and the World Wildlife Fund – Canada. He also served as Chair of the Board of the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia. He is currently a member of the Board of TransAlta Renewables (TSX:RNW).
