Matt Solberg joined the New West Public Affairs team in December 2017 after spending 5.5 years serving in the Opposition Leader’s Office at the Alberta Legislature. Matt
began his political career in 2012 working as a legislative assistant for the Wildrose Official Opposition before taking on the role as Principal Secretary to the Leader of the
Official Opposition, Brian Jean, and Director of the Wildrose Official Opposition Caucus in 2014. In this capacity, Matt developed relationships on both sides of the aisle and served as the primary liaison between the Official Opposition and the Office of the Premier.
In his role as Campaign Chair for the Wildrose Party in the 2015 election, Matt helped develop the team that returned Alberta’s largest opposition caucus since 1993. In the
spring of 2017, Matt worked with representatives from the Wildrose and PC parties to write the Agreement in Principle that led to the creation of the United Conservative Party of Alberta. In the subsequent leadership campaign, Matt worked in a communications role as Press Secretary to Brian Jean.
Since joining New West, Matt has leveraged relationships with both government, opposition, and the media, to advance client priorities on a range of issues related to environment, justice, energy, and labour.
Matt attended the broadcast journalism program at Calgary’s SAIT Polytechnic and is currently based in Edmonton.
